Fire Risk Assessment
Understand your fire inception hazards and controls and how you might reduce risk. See loss scenarios and quantify potential events.
Overview
A fire risk assessment is a systematic and thorough evaluation of a building or area to identify potential fire hazards, assess the risk of those hazards causing harm, and determine appropriate measures to minimize or eliminate those risks. This assessment is crucial for ensuring the safety of occupants and protecting property from fire damage.
The assessments follow a consistent framework of Zurich Risk Grading and focus on your fire inception hazards and any controls you have in place. An assessment will look at any controls to minimize the likelihood of a fire occurring as well as any controls that reduce the impact of a fire should one occur.
In addition to organizational controls, such as hot work and housekeeping, and physical controls, such as fire sprinklers, we also look at external influences, such as off-site exposures and public fire protection.
Following the assessment, we suggest ways to improve your controls and share loss scenarios and estimates to help you visualize and quantify the impact of any events.
The assessment will help you identify opportunities to improve your sustainability and resilience, looking at the protection of physical assets and of value creation.
The assessment may prioritize actions to improve your risk, helping you organize a sensible risk improvement plan.
A typical Fire Risk Assessment includes the following steps:
- Entrance Meeting: An initial meeting to organize the visit.
- Fire Protection System Tests: Witnessing tests of fire protection systems, where applicable.
- Facility Tour: A comprehensive tour of the facility, which may include the roof, provided safe access is available.
- Exit Meeting: A concluding meeting to review findings.
The results of the assessment will be compiled into a detailed report, which includes:
- Executive Summary: An overview of key findings.
- Loss Estimates: Projections of potential losses.
- Fire Risk Grading: A grade reflecting the assessed fire risk.
- Risk Improvement Actions: Suggested actions for risk mitigation, if applicable.
